Morrison “delighted” with rocket on Riverside return

Midfielder scored for Albion against his former club

JAMES Morrison was “delighted” to see his stunning strike hit the back of the net on his return to the Riverside Stadium.

The midfielder rifled home from the edge of penalty area, after being teed up by Darren Fletcher, to open the scoring for Albion against Middlesbrough in the pouring North East rain.

The Baggies No.7, who came through the ranks at the Riverside and went on to make just under 100 appearances for Boro between 2004-2007, said he had been hoping for a moment like that in the build up to the fixture with his former club.

“I’ve been thinking about that (my goal) for a few weeks,” admitted Morrison.

“I was delighted to score, however, it’s a shame that we couldn’t get the win.

“We started off really well and got the goal.

“Middlesbrough then got the penalty and picked up a bit of momentum.

“In the second half we created a few chances and limited them to very little and maybe could have gone on to win it.

“Middlesbrough are fighting for points and we wanted to keep our momentum going and it turned out to be quite an entertaining game of football.”
