Boss upbeat over squad fitness

ALAN Pardew says Albion have had some "good news" on the availability of certain first-team stars ahead of the trip to Swansea on Saturday.

The Baggies have long-term absentee Craig Dawson making "excellent progress" and Gareth Barry recovering from a thigh injury, whilst Nacer Chadli and James Morrison look set for a December return to action.

But Pardew thinks his options will improve for the trip to South Wales this weekend with the return of Matt Phillips and Chris Brunt, both of whom missed the clash with Crystal Palace.

"We've still got to come through tomorrow's training but we think Chris Brunt and [Matt] Phillips will be back in the group. That will help us because they are two offensive players - an area where we perhaps need to improve on.

"Other than that we have had a good week training-wise with some of the other injured players. I don't think they're too far away.

"Gareth Barry will miss this game but it's not as serious as we feared it might be so even Gareth might be back for Manchester United.

"We've had some good news this week."
