Rodriguez feeling 'sharp' ahead of season opener

SUMMER signing Jay Rodriguez "can't wait" for the new Premier League season to get started. And Albion's new frontman says he's feeling "sharp" ahead of the opening game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Rodriguez has netted twice for his new club in pre-season with strikes against Leicester City and Burton Albion, but insists the focus is on getting fit ahead of the coming campaign.

"I can't wait now," Jay says.

"I feel fit. I feel strong. I feel sharp.

"It's been tough but everything's gone well in pre-season so I'm looking forward to getting started."

Jay will be hoping for an injury-free year with the Baggies - and he's set himself some personal targets for the coming season.

"I set myself personal targets but it's also about taking each game as it comes and trying to do your best every time.

"The main thing for me is a goal tally and scoring as many as I can. I've got a figure in mind.

"It's going to be a good day on Saturday and hopefully I can get on the scoresheet. It's important to get that first win and build momentum for the season."
