Pulis: Burke has fantastic raw ability

TONY Pulis is relishing the chance of working with one of the most exciting young talents from the UK.

The Baggies have swooped to clinch the signing of Oliver Burke from Red Bull Leipzig for an undisclosed sum.

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract and the deal, including Oliver's international clearance, was completed in time for the Scottish international to be available for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Stoke City at The Hawthorns.

“We’re really pleased to get him in - the lad has got a tremendous talent,” said the Baggies head coach.

“He’s got a fantastic, raw ability but he has now also got the experience of going away from the comfort of his own area to a foreign country and experiencing life.

“He’s gained the experience of playing for a top club in the Bundesliga with top coaches. That will have broadened his horizons and been good for his development.”

Albion fans can look forward to seeing a player who has already gained a reputation for pace and powerful running which Pulis will hope to hone for the Premier League.

The youngster learned his football at Nottingham Forest where he graduated through their Academy all the way to their first team before his outstanding performances persuaded Leipzig to pounce in the summer of 2016.

He added: “I’m sure our fans will like him. He’s very direct, he scores goals. There’s a bit of work to be done and certainly more to come out of him - he’s not the finished article yet by any means.

“But he’s already got good experience from playing at Forest and now the added taste of figuring in a team which finished second in the Bundesliga.

“I watched him this summer with Scotland’s Under 20s and he was outstanding. I’m looking forward to working with him."
