WBA FC Women triumph over Leicester

Olivia Mitcham hits late winner

OLIVIA Mitcham's late strike gave Albion all three points in a 1-0 FA Women's Premier League Northern Division victory over Leicester City Women.

The Baggies bounced back from last weekend's defeat at Bradford City to record a third win in four games.

And it was the least Albion deserved as Greaves, Mitcham and Cottam all came close to breaking the deadlock before Thomas at the other end pulled off a fine save at the near-post to deny Leicester's Axton.

Yet just as the game looked to be heading for a stalemate, up popped Mitcham to steer the ball home from close-range after Greaves had supplied a right-wing cross to give West Brom their sixth league win of the season.

Head coach Craig Nicholls was full of praise for his players after the win.

"We've played really well today, their goalkeeper has kept them in it because we could have been 3-0 up before half-time.

"Sometimes it's difficult when you have not got much to play for in the league, but credit to the girls they have kept going right up until the end."
