Nyom targets World Cup

Defender wants Cameroon qualification

ALLAN Nyom is desperate for Cameroon to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The 'Indomitable Lions' find themselves in a group with Algeria, Nigeria and Zambia.

And the Baggies full back is aware of the test facing his side ahead of their opening game in Algeria on Sunday (ko 8.30pm).

"We hope we can progress but we know it's a hard group.

"Algeria will be a very tough test.

"Any game away from home is difficult but when you come up against quality players like Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani you need to be at your best."

With experience of playing in a World Cup, Nyom understands the weight of expectation on the team's shoulders.

"Everyone at home wants us to qualify.

"Cameroon have a proud history in World Cups, especially making the quarter-finals in 1990.

"It's important to make sure we have the opportunity to continue that success by qualifying for Russia."
