Foundation fundraiser to get match ball honour

Sally-Ann Wright is this week's Fans' Champion

ONE of Albion’s most devoted fundraisers will be this week’s Fans' Champion for the Premier League clash against Spurs.

Sally-Ann Wright has raised thousands of pounds for The Albion Foundation with her marathon efforts and later this month comes another – a 132-mile coast-to-coast walk across England which will see her complete five marathons in five days.

The Hawthorns will get the chance to salute Sal, a huge Baggies fan and season-ticket holder, when she delivers the match ball to the Premier League plinth before kick-off.

Sal, a student nurse, will be joined by her friend and Handsworth primary school headmistress Paula Burns on this latest jaunt, which is the latest in a long line of fundraising efforts.

She has travelled with The Albion Foundation on each of its three trips to Kenya and will again be heading to Africa next Easter. It has helped her raise more than £7,000 and she has high hopes the “Coast 2 Coast” multi marathon which will add to the total.

They will be setting off on October 24 from Morecambe and walking across Redmire, Northallerton, Battersby and ending at Saltburn-by-the-Sea on the Friday.

“Being nominated as Fans' Champion was a really lovely surprise and totally unexpected,” said Sal who popped down to the training ground to get a ‘good luck’ send off from new Albion hero Nacer Chadli.

“I’m very much looking forward to signalling countdown and delivering the match ball. It will be an honour to be a part of matchday, I just hope I don’t trip and fall!”
