INTERNATIONALS: Disappointment for NI trio

Sam Field and Tyler Roberts also in action

ALBION trio Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt all featured as Northern Ireland fell to a 3-0 friendly defeat at home to Croatia on Tuesday night.

McAuley and Brunt both played the opening 45 minutes at Windsor Park before being replaced at the break, while Evans completed 90 minutes for Michael O'Neill's side.

It proved a disappointing end to a memorable year for Northern Ireland, who reached the knockout stages of Euro 2016 - their first major tournament since 1986.

Defeat was their first in 11 home matches since 2013 but attention will return to World Cup qualification in the new year and the road to Russia 2018.

Elsewhere, Sam Field completed 90 minutes as England's Under-19 side saw off Greece 2-0 to bolster their hopes of qualifying for next year's UEFA European Championship.

However, there was disappointment for Tyler Roberts, on loan at Oxford United, as he skippered his Wales Under-19 side to 6-2 victory over Luxembourg but saw them fail to progress to the next stage of qualification.

England topped Group 6 and secured safe passage alongside runners-up Greece, with third-placed Wales exiting the qualifying competition - despite all three nations finishing level on six points from three matches.
