Rondon off to winning start at the Copa America

Venezuela kick-off tournament with narrow victory

SALOMON Rondon’s Venezuela made the perfect start in Group C at the Copa America, recording a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in Chicago.

The Baggies forward, who completed the full 90 minutes, played a part in the move which led to the only goal of the game, scored by Josef Martinez in the 15th minute.

Mexico claimed a 3-1 win over Uruguay in the other game in Group C.

Next up for Rondon and Venezuela is a clash with Uruguay in Philadelphia on Friday, June 10 (ko 12.30am), before they face Mexico in the final group game in Houston on Tuesday, June 14 (ko 1am).

Meanwhile, James Chester played 64 minutes of Wales’ 3-0 friendly defeat to fellow Euro 2016 qualifiers Sweden in Stockholm.

Goals from Emil Forsberg, Mikael Lustig and John Guidetti helped the hosts to a comfortable victory.

Chester and Wales will come up against England, Russia and Slovakia in Group B at the finals.
