Disappointing defeat at Copa America for Gamboa’s Costa Rica

Heavy defeat against USA

CRISTIAN Gamboa’s Costa Rica suffered a 4-0 defeat against USA in their second group game at the Copa America.

The Albion defender started at right-back in Chicago but was replaced at half-time by Jose Salvatierra.

First-half goals from Clint Dempsey, Jermaine Jones and Bobby Wood put the tournament hosts in control at the break, before Graham Zusi wrapped up the points three minutes from time.

Colombia recorded a 2-1 victory over Paraguay in the other Group A game to seal their place in the quarter-finals.

Gamboa and Costa Rica, who sit bottom of the group, must beat Colombia in Houston on Sunday June, 12 (ko 2am BST) to have any chance of progressing through to the last-eight.
