Phillips: The boys have been spot on

New man on first few days at the Club

ALBION’s first summer signing Matty Phillips has eased into life among his new team-mates thanks to their “welcoming” nature.

The former QPR winger joined the Baggies just in time to fly out to Austria with the rest of the squad for a physically demanding pre-season training camp.

The 25-year-old recognised James Morrison and Darren Fletcher from Scotland international duty but Phillips also reserved special praise for the group as a whole.

“I feel as though I have settled in well and the first few days have been good,” said Phillips.

“I’m enjoying it.

“It’s been nice to come away and get to know all the boys, they have been very welcoming towards me which is nice.

“There’s definitely a good bunch here so it has been very easy to settle in.

“I know Mozza and Fletch from when I have been away with Scotland so it’s nice to come into a group when you are familiar with some faces, but as a whole everyone has been spot on.

The Baggies players and staff had a break from the usual schedule of three sessions a day on Monday afternoon, and instead, enjoyed a spot of white water rafting in what was a team bonding activity.

Phillips said: “The rafting was very good.

“It was great to get out and do something a little bit different.

“We were all in our little teams too so that helped with the bonding.

“It wasn’t as easy as people may think, it was quite a tough upper body workout but at the same time it was very enjoyable.”
