Under-18s suffer defeat at Sunderland

Scrivens and Smith on target for youngsters

SET-piece strikes from Chay Scrivens and James Smith proved to be just a small consolation for Albion’s Under-18 side on Saturday, as they lost 5-2 at Sunderland.

The hosts raced into a three-goal lead after just 20 minutes on a day to forget for the youngsters, before adding two further goals.

Scrivens pulled one back for the Baggies with a sublime free-kick late on, and that was followed up by a goal direct from a corner by Smith, but the damage had already been inflicted as the Black Cats claimed the points on Wearside.

ALBION: Hall, Wilson, O’Shea, Barbir, Melbourne (Pritchatt 30), Elbouzedi (Artymatas 85), Field, Sweeney, Scrivens, Smith, Forss (Pierce 70).

Unused subs: Hause, Dool.
