Foster’s double delight at Salomon’s strike

Venezuela forward hit winner at Ashton Gate

THERE was more than one reason why Ben Foster was so glad to see Salomon Rondon score the winner at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.

The Venezuela forward’s 52nd minute strike sealed a 1-0 victory for the Baggies against Bristol City in the FA Cup third round replay.

England international Foster was understandably delighted to see his team-mate on the scoresheet for the first time since the end of October, when he nodded home against Leicester City at The Hawthorns.

But the Albion stopper was also thankful to Rondon for preventing extra time in below freezing temperatures in the West Country.

He said: “It’s been a while since Salomon scored, so the lads were really happy to see him score again.

“It was a great ball from Daws and then it was a great touch and finish by Salomon.

“He didn’t rush the chance.

“Salomon is a great lad, he always works hard in training and you can see that he gives his all in games too.

“We were all thankful to him for scoring that goal.

“None of us wanted it to go to extra time because it was about minus three.”
