Baggies fight back after conceding in 88th minute
THERE was late, late drama at Motspur Park where Joe Ward’s injury-time header secured a deserved 1-1 draw for Albion’s Under-21 side against Fulham.
The hosts thought they had stolen all three points when George Williams smashed one home from the left-hand side of the penalty area with just two minutes left on the clock.
But the brave and battling Baggies had other ideas, with midfielder Ward nodding the ball into the net at the back post deep into time added on.
The point leaves James Shan’s men fourth in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Division Two table, five points behind leaders Arsenal.
The Baggies boss praised the character, desire and work rate of his side following the match.
Shan said: “I was delighted with the boys, I thought we were very good for large parts of the game.
“The character, desire and work rate was superb.
“We had a lot of young and inexperienced players at this level on the pitch tonight and they stepped up.
“We created some good chances during the 90 minutes and could have won the game.
“They broke quickly towards the end and scored their goal, but I thought we could have defended it better.
“I would have been so frustrated if we had lost after putting in a good display, but thankfully Tyler Roberts put a brilliant cross in and Joe Ward headed it in at the back post late on.
“The most pleasing thing for me was seeing the desire the boys had to get a positive result.”
