ALBION 1 SWANSEA 1

Rondon's fifth goal of the season for Baggies

  • Rondon snatches late leveller (90+2)
  • Sigurdsson put Swans ahead (64)
  • Evans limps off injured in second half
  • Attendance: 22,062
  • Albion Star Man: Claudio Yacob
ALBION grabbed a much-deserved point thanks to a dramatic late equaliser from Salomon Rondon against Swansea City at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies looked to be doomed to defeat as they trailed to a well-taken goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson after 64 minutes.

But they refused to give in and in the second of four minutes of added time got their rewards when Rondon converted from close range amid frantic pressure from a James McClean corner.

Albion will be kicking themselves for not putting the game to bed from a steady stream of chances which went begging or were denied by Swansea keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

He started the night by denying an early Darren Fletcher header and reserved an even better save to keep out Victor Anichebe’s piledriver late in the game.

In between times Craig Dawson, Rondon and twice Fletcher could not take headed opportunities while Ben Foster shut out the Swans with two fine saves to deny Sigurdsson and Alberto Paloschi.

It looked as if Albion would pay when they were punished on the break by Sigurdsson’s well-placed finish but, after Dawson had been denied at the far post in the frantic final minutes, the subsequent corner triggered Rondon’s game-saving celebrations.
