Pulis provides transfer plans update

Head coach urges caution ahead of January window

Tony Pulis has insisted Albion will only sign a player who can improve his in-form first team during the January transfer window.

Baggies fans are growing increasingly excited about the season’s prospects especially with the Club primed to add to their squad in the new year.

But the head coach, who on Saturday saw his team Albion claim their third win in four games to reach seventh in the Premier League, has made it clear the Club will not be pressured into signings for the sake of it.

After the 3-1 defeat of Watford at The Hawthorns, Pulis confirmed that the Albion board had confirmed they were “very keen” to strengthen in January if the right deal could be found.

"They think we have a good group of lads as a base and it is important we bring quality in,” said Pulis. “Instead of bringing five or six, we’ll bring one or two.

"We will have to box clever and I have to say this - if they are not there, we don’t buy. That’s what I’ve said to John (Williams, the Club chairman).

“We have to try to get quality players and that is going to be difficult and will be more pressure on me.”

Albion are enjoying their best start since the 2012/13 season in which they recorded their best ever Premier League finish to date of eighth.

The Baggies are now preparing for what is currently the toughest fixture on the Premier League card – a visit to Stamford Bridge on Sunday where leaders Chelsea will be going for their ninth successive league victory.
