McClean sets target for 2016/17 season

Winger keen to create more chances for forwards

James McClean is targeting a flurry of assists following his match-winning delivery at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

The Republic of Ireland international’s fierce free-kick was headed home by Salomon Rondon as Albion claimed an opening day Premier League victory in south London.

McClean recorded two assists in the top flight during his first year at The Hawthorns and the 27-year-old is determined to chip in with plenty more this season.

He said: “Last season I didn’t get as many assists as I would’ve liked.

“It’s a case of starting the season as I mean to go on in terms of creating opportunities for my team-mates.

“I was pleased to see Salo finish off my free-kick which gave us the win.

“I nearly got him in a second time at Palace too.

“When you have someone who is good in the air and you can get your delivery right then you’ll always have a chance.

“Hopefully I can help the team out with a few more assists and goals during this campaign.”
