LOAN WATCH: Youngsters feature over bank holiday weekend

Joe Ward makes impressive Torquay debut

FIVE Albion youngsters were in action for their loan sides over the bank holiday weekend.

Joe Ward was the pick of the bunch with the midfielder impressing on his debut for Torquay United in the Vanarama National League.

The Gulls secured a 2-1 win over Dover Athletic at Plainmoor and they then went on to record their second victory of the weekend, a 3-1 triumph at Braintree, where Ward once again played the whole game.

His Baggies team-mate Chay Scrivens was an unused substitute for the clash against Dover but did come on for the final 15 minutes at Braintree on Monday.

In League One forward Tyler Roberts was an unused substitute for Oxford United who fell to a 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United.

Centre-back Kyle Howkins played the whole game for Mansfield Town at Leyton Orient in League Two. The Albion man helped the Stags to a 2-1 victory which leaves them sitting fifth in the table after five games.

In the same division striker Tahvon Campbell was introduced in the 61st minute for Yeovil Town at Doncaster. It was an afternoon to forget for the Glovers who went down 4-1 and finished the game with 10 men.

Callum Jones was an unused substitute as Accrington threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at home to Morecambe while fellow defender Shaun Donnellan was not involved in Stevenage’s 5-2 defeat against Grimsby at Blundell Park.

Goalkeeper Ethan Ross watched on from the bench on Saturday as his Worcester City side lost 1-0 at home to Chorley in the Vanarama National League North.

The stopper was back between the sticks for City on Monday afternoon at Stockport where he played the full 90 minutes but was unable to prevent a second consecutive 1-0 defeat.
