Kemp reacts to Torquay friendly defeat

And assesses Matt Phillips' performance

ALBION joint-assistant head coach David Kemp reacted to Monday night’s pre-season friendly defeat at Torquay United.

Matt Phillips grabbed a late goal at Plainmoor but the Baggies were unable to find an equaliser despite creating a host of chances.

Speaking to the press after the game, Kemp said: “Torquay did very well and it was a good entertaining game.
“It’s pre-season, we’ve won games, we’ve lost games, this is preparation time, that’s the fact.
“If we’d won the game it wouldn’t have made any difference to our preparation for Crystal Palace.
“Pre-season results are irrelevant, tell me the results from last pre-season.
"No-one remembers pre-season, it's not about that, it's about the 38 games in the Premier League and hope you have a run in the cups.”

Kemp on the performance…
“I thought we showed a lot of attacking intent, we only scored one goal, but we could have had a few.
“We need to carry on creating plenty of chances like we did tonight."

Kemp on Phillips…
"He got a good goal, he looked bright, put some really good crosses in.
"That's what we want him to do, he's shown that he's capable of doing that.
"Hopefully he'll take that into the Crystal Palace game."
