Fletcher heaps praise on matchwinner Rondon

Skipper delighted with forward’s display

BAGGIES skipper Darren Fletcher hailed Salomon Rondon’s opening day performance at Crystal Palace as “fantastic”.

The new number nine rose highest in the box to glance home the only goal of the game with just 16 minutes remaining as Albion claimed three points in south London.

Rondon worked tirelessly and caused plenty of problems for Palace centre-backs Scott Dann and Damien Delaney throughout the 90 minutes.

It was a display which earned the Venezuelan a glowing report from his captain.

“Salo was fantastic,” said Fletcher.

“He ran the line, held the ball up and battled really well against their two centre-backs.

“He looks fit and strong and is definitely in better condition than he was last season which is good to see.

“I think Salomon would tell you that too.

“I thought he was a great player for us last season but this season he looks even better.

“He came from the Russian league and didn’t speak the language but he is now mixing with the squad a lot more and he’s a lot more confident.”
