Under-21s face tough task to qualify for play-offs
JAMES Shan felt his Under-21 side deserved a point at Blackburn on Monday night and now admits he is “hoping and praying” results go for them.
The youngsters suffered a late 2-1 defeat at Ewood Park – a result which sees Rovers sitting in the final play-off position, three points ahead of Albion, who are the only team that can now replace them in the top five heading into the final game of the season.
The Baggies need to win at Arsenal on Monday night and hope Blackburn lose at home to Villa on the same night, in order to qualify for the play-offs.
“We need to hope and pray that results go for us,” said a deflated Shan.
“A draw would have kept it in our hands, but now we need Blackburn to lose and we need to win at Arsenal.
“I think a draw would have been a fair result given the balance of play.
“The performance, especially our second-half display, was one of our best this season.
“These last few games are about results and it was sickening to lose so late on.”
