Samir Nabi delighted to be the derby hero

Midfielder scored only goal against Villa

DERBY day hero Samir Nabi expressed his delight at scoring the winning goal for the Under-21s against Villa on Monday night.

The midfielder saw his sixth minute penalty saved by Matija Sarkic but he then reacted quickest to convert the rebound.

Nabi’s winning goal sealed a first league victory since December and in the process, kept Albion's Barclays U21 Premier League Division Two play-off hopes alive.

Speaking after the match, in which his side ended up with nine men after dismissals for Callum McManaman and Callam Jones, the youngster said: “It is always a great feeling to score the winning goal in a derby against your local rivals.

“It was a scary moment when the ‘keeper saved my penalty but thankfully I was able to put the rebound away.

“It was an unbelievable shift from the boys, they had to dig really deep.

“To lose two men and still hold on to the victory was fantastic.

“The aim now for us is to make sure we win our final two games and hopefully qualify for the play-offs.”
