Lescott: Anfield defeat is no disgrace

Baggies defender disappointed to taste defeat

JOLEON Lescott believes leaving Anfield having suffered a defeat is no disgrace, but he insists Albion's players were bitterly disappointed to depart with nothing to show for their efforts yesterday.

Albion put in a spirited performance against Liverpool but goals from England internationals Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson, either side of a Saido Berahino penalty, were enough to see off Alan Irvine’s men 2-1.

Lescott played the full 90 minutes and put in another impressive shift at the back after good displays against Tottenham and Burnley.

And despite the result, Lescott believes Albion showed they are capable of worrying the bigger teams in the Barclays Premier League.

“We gave Liverpool a very difficult game,” said Lescott.

“We were well organised and we gave a very good account of ourselves.

“We showed that we are capable of causing problems to the big teams.

“We are bitterly disappointed with the result.

“However, coming away from Anfield having lost is not a disgrace.”

Berahino grabbed his fifth league goal of the season on Merseyside, converting a second-half penalty to cement his place as Albion’s top scorer so far this season.

And speaking after the game, Lescott was quick to praise the 21-year-old.

“Saido is the type of player who can cause problems against anyone,” said Lescott.

“He is confident, works extremely hard and he wants to learn.

“He was unlucky not to get a second goal with his head.”
