Irvine unhappy with Berahino decision
ALAN Irvine believes Saido Berahino was denied a potential goal by the assistant referee in the defeat against Arsenal. The Baggies forward was clear of the last man after being played through by Craig Gardner at the start of the second-half - a similar chance to the one he fashioned for Albion's second goal in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United.
But Berahino's hopes of an eighth goal was dashed when he was flagged for offside, despite replays clearly showing he was onside.
Irvine said: "Saido was onside.
"That's two weeks in a row now where key decisions have been wrong.
"We can do without them because they don't half make the jobs against big clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal a lot harder.
"Saido had a similar chance against Manchester United and scored so I would have fancied him to score again."
Speaking after his side's defeat to Arsene Wenger's side, Irvine continued: "We got close to getting something - we were committing people forward at the end.
"I thought we started well but we lost control of the game. We started the second half ok and there was a big moment at the start of the second that might have made a difference and then obviously they scored.
"We had Arsenal on the back foot late on, we hit the bar so we might have got something."
