Dorrans catches Irvine's eye

Irvine: Dorrans is a big part of our team

GRAHAM Dorrans can only boost his international chances by proving he is willing to be Albion's ultimate team player.

The Scotland international has performed consistently well since the turn of 2014, playing a key role in Albion's XI this term.

The midfielder has always expressed a preference for playing through the centre - ideally in an attacking position.

But Dorrans has performed a potent role, generally on the right-hand side of a midfield four this term.

And his displays, not to mention his attitude, have caught Alan Irvine's eye.

With Scotland vs England looming, Dorrans will be aiming to earn a place in Gordon Strachan's side.

Irvine, whose side take on Newcastle United this lunchtime, believes he stands a chance.

"He's been playing really well for us," said Irvine.

"Graham has become a really important part of the team - probably not playing in his favourite position, which would be as a number 10.

"But we're playing in a certain way at this moment and Graham is a big part of that.

"He's got good quality with the ball, he's a goal threat and he's played really well.

"He is waiting for his chance on the international side of things.

"The midfield have done well for Scotland it's a difficult side to break into. But Graham will get there."

Irvine continued: "From day one of pre-season he has worked really well. It's not been difficult putting him in the team.

"He finished last season well and has carried on from there. I'm very pleased with him."
