On-loan midfielder starts for five-star Rams
GEORGE Thorne discovered the old adage on Saturday that ‘good things come to those who wait’.
The Albion midfielder joined Derby in late January on a loan deal until the end of the season, however he was forced to wait until the weekend to pull on a Rams shirt for the first time.
And it was a memorable full debut for the 21-year-old as he starred in an emphatic 5-0 victory over local rivals Nottingham Forest at the iPro Stadium.
Thorne is now aiming to keep hold of his starting berth as County continue their promotion push in the Sky Bet Championship.
“It was a great game to make my debut in,” he said on Derby's official website.
“I understand it’s the biggest local derby win for Derby County for long time so I was glad to be part of it.
“I’ve had to wait a little while to make my debut but you have to be patient sometimes in football.
“The team had been playing well, especially in midfield, so I’ve had to wait my turn.
“I enjoyed making my debut and I hope I’ve done enough to keep my place.
“I want to play as much as I can and John Eustace being out (due to a two-match suspension) is an opportunity for me to show what I can do.
“He has kept me out of the side and we are vying for promotion so competition should be strong across all areas.”
