Irvine confirms Lescott interest

Baggies boss is keen to be reunited with defender

HEAD Coach Alan Irvine has confirmed Albion’s interest in signing defender Joleon Lescott.

The Birmingham-born 31-year-old is a free agent having seen his five-year stay at Manchester City end with a second Barclays Premier League winners’ medal in three seasons.

Lescott, who has 26 England caps to his name, also lifted the FA Cup and League Cup during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

“There’s an interest in Joleon, without a doubt,” Irvine said.

“I believe negotiations are going very well at this particular moment.

“Joleon is a player I know well, I obviously had a number of years with him at Everton. I remember even before we signed him at Everton, the number of times we watched him.

“I’ve had a great working relationship with Joleon in the past.

“He’s a great character, great personality and a terrific professional. The more of those we can have the better.

“Joleon has said he would be more than happy to work with me again.

“If that helps then fantastic. But clearly there are many, many issues as far as signing players are concerned.”
