Baggies set to take on Portuguese giants at The Hawthorns
ALBION are delighted to announce they will play two-time European champions FC Porto in their sole home summer friendly on Saturday, August 9 (ko 4pm).
The Baggies will round off their pre-season programme by hosting the Portuguese outfit at The Hawthorns - a week before they kick-off their fifth successive Barclays Premier League campaign with the visit of Sunderland.
Porto, nicknamed the Dragões (Dragons) because of the mythical creature featured on their club crest, are the most titled team in Portugal, with 74.
And they are only second to Benfica (33) in terms of league titles, with 27 to their name.
As defending champions, they finished third in Primeira Liga last term behind title winners Benfica and second-placed Sporting Lisbon.
The Dragões are currently managed by former Spain goalkeeper Julen Lopetegui, and captained by veteran Brazil stopper Helton.
Porto’s 2013/14 top goalscorer Jackson Martinez, who netted 29 times last season, fired a double for Colombia in Tuesday’s 4-1 World Cup victory over Japan as the South American outfit claimed Group C top spot.
Full ticket details for this game are not yet available but will be announced at www.wba.co.uk in due course.
