And defender calls for 'backs against the wall' performance
STEVEN Reid admits he must raise his game as he called for a ‘backs against the wall’ performance against Liverpool on Sunday (ko 1.30pm).
The Baggies right-back was disappointed with his display in Wednesday’s derby defeat at Villa.
But he is determined to make amends against the in-form Reds at The Hawthorns as Albion embark on their remaining 15 games.
“It was a big defeat for us but there is still plenty of time left,” said Reid.
“The wind was swirling about out there on Wednesday, the conditions weren’t great and Benteke’s a handful when he’s in that form.
“As a back-four we have to take a bit of responsibility – I was disappointed with my own performance.
“It’s onto the next game now.
“It’s a tough one.
“It’s a fixture we’ve done well in in recent seasons and there is no reason we can’t go out and get a result.
“Sometimes when our backs are up against the wall we produce our best form.
“Luckily we’ve got great experience in the dressing room, older heads, who have been there before.
“I’ve been there a couple of times before with Blackburn and West Brom.
“We know what it’s about and we’ve got more than enough to kick on from here.”
