Pepe can't wait to get started

New head coach says he is relishing Hawthorns challenge

PEPE Mel has kicked off his first week at the Albion helm by pledging to bring an attractive brand of football to The Hawthorns that will excite supporters.

Mel was appointed as the club’s new head coach last Thursday evening and watched the team he has inherited from the stands at Southampton.

He will meet the squad for the first time when they report for training tomorrow, as early preparations begin for next Monday’s televised Hawthorns date with Everton (ko 8pm).

Former Real Betis boss Mel says he is excited about the opportunity the club have given him to coach in the Barclays Premier League and says his long-term goal is to develop a possession-based method of play.

The Spaniard, who took to his personal Twitter account @pepe_mel on Saturday night to thank Baggies fans for the many messages of support he has received, said: “It was very important for me that West Brom showed such an interest in me.

“The ambition of the club is to improve every day and they have the ability and facilities to do that.

“We will try to create a team that plays attractively for the fans so that they can relate to the team.

“We will look to create a style of play that identifies us.

"Possession of the ball will be the most important thing for us.”
