Olsson: We cannot get distracted

Defender urges team-mates to focus only on Albion in survival scrap

JONAS Olsson has urged his team-mates not to get distracted by results outside of the club's control as he sets his sights on securing Barclays Premier League safety as soon as possible.

The Baggies climbed to 16th in the table following a 1-1 draw with Fulham on Saturday - but dropped a place on Sunday after Norwich beat Spurs 1-0 at Carrow Road.

There are now just seven points separating Sunderland in 18th and West Ham in tenth - with Albion still only six points off a place in the top half of the table.

And the Sweden international says it is important Pepe Mel's side focus solely on their own 11-game run-in.

“I’m not thinking too far ahead," said Olsson.

"We’re focusing on one game at a time, as the cliché goes.

“That’s how you need to approach it I think, and not look ahead thinking ‘if this’ or ‘if that’ and look at other results.

“You should just focus and keep your energy on the stuff you can control, otherwise you’re in trouble and you tend to go away from the things you do well.

“We just need to concentrate on our bit and hopefully by doing so we won’t be depending on other results and other games.

"I think we’re heading the right way - and I don’t think we should over-analyse things.

“Swansea are 12th with 28 points, so if we were three points higher everybody would say we were in a decent position and doing what we’ve been doing for the last few seasons.

“I don’t think it’s a massive difference.

"I think it’s a league where you have tough seasons and there are very small margins.

“It is very tight this year, so there are eight, nine or maybe ten teams in the same position we’re in."
