Brunt on course for new Albion record

And see where Baggies internationals are heading next week

CHRIS Brunt is on track to become Albion’s all-time record international caps holder outright on Wednesday.

The Baggies midfielder is currently neck and neck with Zoltan Gera, who boasts 35 appearances for Hungary during his two spells at The Hawthorns.

Brunt is now hoping to make it 36 after being called up by Northern Ireland for their midweek friendly against Cyprus in Nicosia.

In total, he has made 45 appearances for his country.

The Baggies duo are the only players to have surpassed the 33 caps the late Stuart Williams earned for Wales as an Albion player between 1950 and 1962.

Brunt will be joined by Gareth McAuley on international duty, while there are also seven other senior players lined up for Wednesday action with their countries ahead of facing Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League three days later (ko 12.45pm).

Ben Foster has been named in the England squad for their Wembley friendly against Denmark (ko 8pm), which is the last game before Roy Hodgson picks his World Cup squad for Brazil.

James Morrison is jetting off to Warsaw for Scotland’s clash with Poland.

Matej Vydra has been called up by the Czech Republic for their friendly with Norway in Prague.

Goran Popov is back in the Macedonia fold for their game against Latvia in Skopje.

Diego Lugano will be away with Uruguay for their trip to Austria, while Boaz Myhill is set for duty with Wales as they prepare to take on Iceland in Cardiff.

Saido Berahino has been called by England Under-21s for their European Championships qualifier against Wales at Derby’s Pride Park (ko 6pm).
