Andre Wisdom, Sebastien Pocognoli, Chris Baird and Craig Gardner all get the chance to impress at the City Ground.
Fellow new signing Joleon Lescott (tight calf) and skipper Chris Brunt (groin) return from injury and are named on the bench.
Brown Ideye will play no part as he remains in Nigeria waiting receipt of his visa.
Victor Anichebe has been struggling with illness but is among the substitutes.
Stephane Sessegnon misses out again due to his involvement with Benin in their African Nations Cup qualifier with Malawi today.
The forward will return to The Hawthorns early next week.
