Liverpool too strong for U18s

Wedderburn nets stunning goal in defeat

ALBION were undone 4-2 at Liverpool on Saturday in their penultimate fixture of the Barclays Under-18 Premier League season.

Impressive pair Joe Ward and Jonathan Leko combined to pull the Baggies level shortly after the half-hour mark, the latter finding the net to cancel out Liverpool’s opener.

However, the hosts regained their advantage from the penalty spot before half-time to take a deserved lead into the interval.

Andre Wright, who had spurned two good chances in the first period, missed a great opportunity to level soon after the restart.

And the visitors were made to pay as the Reds netted their second penalty of the afternoon before then stretching into a 4-1 lead.

There was to be some joy for Albion, though, amid an improved second-half display as Rees Wedderburn netted a superb consolation from 20 yards, yet it was Liverpool who ran out winners.

The Baggies round off their season at home to Blackburn on Saturday, April 26.
