Baggies suffer last-gasp defeat

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies suffered a last-gasp 1-0 defeat at Stoke on Sunday.

A tight encounter looked to be heading for a goalless draw before the Potters struck in the 89th minute to inflict the Baggies to their first defeat of the season.

Baggies boss Dave Lawrence said: “Credit to Stoke, they competed better than us.

“We had some good chances; probably more chances than Stoke throughout the game but poor finishing let us down.

“For some reason we struggled to get out of third gear and we only seemed to find any momentum after they had scored, but by then it was too late.”

Lawrence also believes this season, the Northern Ladies Premier League may be the most open it has ever been.

“It’s a league where every team will feel as though they can beat each other.

“It may come down to whoever can remain the most consistent and that’s something we have to work on.”
