Morrison: Old guard key to United test

Midfielder looking to build momentum at Old Trafford

JAMES Morrison believes Albion’s summer signings allied to their reliable old guard is the perfect recipe for tomorrow’s testing challenge at Old Trafford (ko 3pm).

The Baggies midfielder, who is in his seventh season at The Hawthorns, is relishing what he says is a tough test at Manchester United, knowing club stalwarts like Jonas Olsson and Youssouf Mulumbu will be in his corner.

And, having scored Albion’s opener to mount a stirring comeback in last season’s historic 5-5 thriller with the champions, he cannot wait to have a crack at David Moyes’ Red Devils.

“It was an important win for us against Sunderland last week, “said Morrison.

“We were under a little bit of pressure and to go and perform like we did, score three goals and keep a clean sheet was a relief.

“Hopefully we can build some momentum.

“We’ve got a tough two games coming up against United and Arsenal.

“There’s no tougher test really.

“Going to Old Trafford after their derby defeat will be a difficult challenge.

“But as players, you look forward to these challenges, and it should be a great afternoon.

“Hopefully we can cause an upset.”

He added: “We’ve made some good signings but I wouldn’t like to single any of them out as being the best.

“I admire the likes of Jonas, Brunty, Mulumbu – people who when the going gets tough are there fighting for the club and their team-mates.

“That’s who I look at, roll my sleeves up and play alongside.

“It’s built in them as players from a young age.”
