Mixed injury news for Baggies

Update on Long and Vydra as trio play in training match

SHANE Long and Matej Vydra remain major doubts for Saturday’s game with Sunderland (ko 3pm).

Long missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham due to the knee injury he suffered on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

While Vydra continues his recovery from the hamstring problem he picked up in the 3-0 Capital One Cup victory over Newport just over three weeks ago.

The Baggies have been boosted by seeing Steven Reid (calf), who has yet to appear for Albion's first team so far this term, get 45 minutes under his belt in a behind-closed-doors training match with a Swindon Development side earlier today.

In the same game George Thorne also saw his first action since suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage in January - and Zoltan Gera (knee) got more minutes on the pitch.

Steve Clarke said:  “Vydra is on schedule, while Long is doubtful.

"Midweek might come too soon for Shane but he should be okay for Old Trafford.

"Reid looked good in his 45 minutes and importantly George and Zoltan got minutes under their belt.”
