Tennis star set to take part in club friendly
STEVE Clarke has invited 2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanišević to show off his ball skills in Albion’s next coaching staff match.
The Croatian Baggies fan fell in love with the club during the 2004/05 Great Escape campaign – after BBC tennis commentator David Law convinced him his heart was at The Hawthorns.
Clarke today offered to play host to the former ATP world No.2 at the club’s training ground - having viewed an impressive display of his footballing talent (see video below).
“I’ve just watched the video,” said the Albion chief.
“He’s been a Baggies fan since 2005 – the Great Escape season – so he picked a good year to become a fan.
“Watching his skills with a tennis ball – he’s not bad!
“When he comes to watch another game there will be an invitation for him to join the staff game.
“I’ve never met him before but you can see he’s a bit of character and I think it would be good to have him in and around the lads in the dressing room.”
You can catch Goran in action at the Statoil Masters Tennis tournament at the Royal Albert Hall from December 4-8. For ticket details click here.
