Ben boosted by award

Foster hopes to come back stronger

BEN Foster admits picking up the Zoopla Player of the Month Award for August is a welcome boost as he continues his rehabilitation following an operation on his right foot.

The England international conceded only one goal in Albion’s first two Barclays Premier League outings – before suffering a stress fracture at Everton.

And the 30-year-old keeper, who is aiming to return to action in mid-November, hopes to come back even stronger.

“It’s nice to win any award the fans are voting for,” said Foster.

“I’d like to thank them for acknowledging me and I’m looking forward to getting back into action soon.

“The operation went well.

“I’m using my time working on other parts of my body.

“I’m working on strength and doing lots of core work.

“I had the first week off after the operation but I’ve been in pretty much every day since then.

“Everything went well which I’m really happy about.

“My cast came off yesterday and I’m really pleased it’s off.

“It was starting to stink and I’m happy to have it off!

“This is the first time I’ve ever had a foot or leg injury.

“We’re still looking at about eight to nine weeks from now.

“I’m looking forward to it and I’m eager to get myself stronger in other areas.”

Foster has backed Boaz Myhill to provide cover for him during his absence – but insists he will also face fierce competition from Luke Daniels and Lee Camp.

“For any player in any position, you always just wait for your chance,” added Foster.

“When somebody gets injured it’s bad fortune for them but it’s another door opening for somebody else.

“It’s up to whoever comes in to take the chance and Boaz against Swansea had no chance with either of the goals but generally looked solid.

“He’s been playing for Wales and getting game-time and Boaz isn’t a lad who is fazed by anything.

“He will always do a job, just like he did when I had my double hernia operation last year – he came in and did a fantastic job.

“He knows he’s got Luke and now Campy biting at his heels so he has to keep his levels up.

“Luke in pre-season has been in fantastic form, so Boaz needs to keep his game strong - and I’m sure he will.”
