Olsson moves step closer to dream

And see how Baggies' other internationals fared in qualifiers

JONAS Olsson last night moved a step closer to his dream of playing in a World Cup as Sweden came from behind to beat nearest rivals Austria 2-1 and book a play-off place.

The Baggies’ defender was an unused substitute in the European Group C clash to guarantee second place behind Germany, with a game to spare.

In the same group Shane Long did not feature as fourth-placed Republic of Ireland lost 3-0 in Germany.

Gareth McAuley played 90 minutes and Chris Brunt 74 minutes as Northern Ireland lost 2-0 in Azerzerbaijan, in Group F.

Boaz Myhill was an unused substitute as Wales beat Macedonia in Group A.

Diego Lugano played 90 minutes as Uruguay lost 1-0 to Ecuador in their South America World Cup qualifier.
