Gillett and McDonough also granted new titles
ALBION can today confirm that Richard Garlick has been appointed as Sporting & Technical Director on a permanent basis after a successful probationary period.
Garlick initially took on the role in a ‘designate’ capacity in January in preparation for Dan Ashworth’s departure to The Football Association.
The 36-year-old, who was promoted to the Football Club Board as Legal Director/Secretary in December 2010, is responsible for four key areas – the First Team, Player Recruitment, Medical Services and Academy.
Chairman Jeremy Peace said: “Richard has settled into his new role admirably and has earned his permanent appointment. We now look forward to him further stamping his mark on the post.”
Garlick added: “The last nine months have been challenging but also very rewarding. I’m delighted to have been appointed on a permanent basis and am looking to build on the progress we have made.”
The Club have announced two further promotions as part of a realignment of the Player Recruitment and Medical Services departments.
Dave McDonough, who joined as Head of Analysis in April, has been appointed as Director of Technical Performance & Scouting.
Mark Gillett, who has been the club’s Head of Medical Services for more than three-and-a-half years, has also been appointed to the role of Director of Performance – a title which more accurately reflects his responsibilities.
Both will report directly into Garlick.
“Since Dave joined us, he has put forward many ideas about how we can improve our player recruitment processes,” added Garlick.
“He has enhanced the structure and methodology of the systems we already had in place and we feel he is the right person to lead our hard-working teams of scouts and analysts.”
Garlick added: “Mark is well respected within the club and he is much more than just our in-house doctor.
“He will remain in charge of our Medical and Sports Science staff and his new title underlines how his role has developed in the past few years.
“Whereas Dave will concentrate on the footballing and technical attributes of our players, Mark’s focus will be on their physical performance and ensuring they are in the best shape possible on a matchday.”
