Baggies miss out at league leaders
SPORTING Club Albion Ladies were defeated 2-1 at Derby County in the FA Women’s Premier League (Northern Division) on Sunday.
The Baggies were two behind at the interval but pulled one back through Jemma Connor-Iommi late on.
Despite dominated the second half of the fixture Albion were unable to find the all-important equaliser.
Ladies manager Dave Lawrence was disappointed with his side’s first-half performance and insists they must start games better if they are to pick up more points on the road.
“With the exception of Sheffield last weekend, we haven’t started most games very well and teams are capitalising,” said Lawrence.
“We can’t keep starting games so poorly, when we score early goals and keep possession it settles us down.”
Lawrence was happy with the Baggies’ efforts after going 2-0 down and thinks they were unlucky not to pick up any points from the game.
“After the second goal we bossed the game.
“We passed the ball well and created some great opportunities.
“We played with more desire and intelligence but we scored too late and we didn’t give ourselves a chance.”
