But boss backs forwards to get on the scoresheet
STEVE Clarke is pleased with the contribution his strike force has made this season – and insists his forwards will soon be among the goals.
The Hawthorns chief, who is preparing to take on previous club Liverpool today, believes if his frontmen continue to occupy goalscoring positions, it is only a matter of time before they find the net.
“Apart form Saido [Berahino], none of them have scored yet but they have contributed to the team’s success and that’s the most important thing,” said Clarke.
“It’s great for strikers to score because every striker wants and needs to score goals.
“But the day I start worrying about them is the day they’re not getting into positions to score goals.
“They’ve all missed chances in the games they’ve played but it’s more worrying when they’re not getting into those positions.”
Clarke also reiterated that no member of his first-team squad can take a starting berth for granted.
“Nobody is guaranteed their place,” he added.
“We’ve got good competition in every position and from game to game my job is to decide what the best starting XI is for that particular match.
“That was the thinking last week and it will be the thinking again today at Liverpoool, next week and the following week.
“We have to make the best of what we’ve got."
