SCA Ladies hit Newcastle for six

Baggies return to winning ways in style

SPORTING Club Albion (SCA) Ladies returned to winning ways with an emphatic 6-2 win over Newcastle United Women on Sunday.

The Baggies started the game slowly and conceded the opener after 19th minutes.

But Louise Fellows levelled before the break and five minutes after the restart Kelly Darby put the Baggies ahead.

The Magpies equalised but a fantastic second-half display saw Albion run riot with further goals from Kayleigh Griffiths, Ellie Gerhold and a brace from Robyn James to secure three important points.

The win sees SCA climb above Newcastle into sixth place and manager Dave Lawrence was delighted with the victory.

“In the first half we struggled to get a hold of the game,” he said.

“We looked short of ideas and you could tell we hadn’t played for a couple of weeks.

“We looked a bit lost but at half-time we changed things around and we knew the game was there for the taking.

“Scoring six goals against Newcastle is fantastic - and the way we did it with some great football was brilliant.”

Derby County Ladies are the visitors to The Grove on Sunday (ko 2pm).
