Baggies boss provides latest on striker's situation
STEVE Clarke has confirmed the club are moving close to agreeing a new Albion deal for Saido Berahino.
Speculation surrounding the 20-year-old striker’s deal has been rife this week - and the Baggies boss today provided the latest update on the negotiations.
“The club have been discussing the deal with Saido’s people for a number of weeks now,” said Clarke.
“It’s getting closer.
“I’d like to sit here and say it’s done – but it’s not quite done.
“It’s getting close and it will take care of itself.
“Saido’s a level-headed boy and he understands the position of the club and what we want to do.
“We want to help him, we want to give him a good contract and we want to make him a better player, which is the most important thing.”
“He’s been terrific for us; I’ve spoken a lot about Saido.
“He had a good pre-season for us when he worked really hard.
“He’s forced his way into the frontline of all the attacking players.
“He’s come in, done great, scored goals.
“He trains with enthusiasm, plays with enthusiasm, and has been a breath of fresh air for us.”
