Billy the hero for Clarke

Albion chief says right-back was 'outstanding' on return to action

STEVE Clarke admitted Romelu Lukaku grabbed the headlines in Albion’s 2-1 over Swansea – but insisted Billy Jones was his unsung hero.

The former Preston right-back was handed his first start in five games with Steven Reid ruled out due to a groin injury.

And Clarke was impressed by the way the 25-year-old defender made a seamless return to Barclays Premier League action against the in-form Swans.

“Romelu is in a rich vein of form, which is great,” said the Baggies boss.

“But there were other players on the pitch who did well.

“Youssouf Mulumbu was man of the match - and I’m going to give a mention to Billy Jones.

“I thought he was outstanding.

“He hasn’t been in the team for a number of weeks now because of the form of Steven Reid.

“Billy got back in and I thought he had a great game today.”
