Ben eager to retain Midlands crown

Keeper highlights importance of Stoke draw in bid to stay top dogs

BEN Foster believes Albion’s goalless draw at Stoke was a big step towards hanging onto their top club in the Midlands crown for another season.

The Baggies took the honour for the first time in 33 years last term as they saw off the challenge of Barclays Premier League rivals the Potters, Villa and relegated Wolves.

And, with only eight games remaining, Saturday’s Britannia Stadium stalemate ensures Steve Clarke’s eighth-placed side maintain their ten-point gap over 11th-placed City, while they are 14 points above fourth-from-bottom Villa.

“We’re looking at at least a 50-point marker and it’s a huge thing for the club to be the top dogs in the Midlands,” said Foster, who today enjoyed his first training session back in the England fold.

“We’re close to achieving that for the last two years now - and that’s amazing.

“Also, I don’t think 50 points is something we want to settle on.

“We need to look a little bit higher and mid-50s is probably more realistic for us.”
