Markus glad to be on goal trail

And Sweden international is enjoying pre-season

MARKUS Rosenberg hopes to reap the benefits of a full pre-season as he looks to build on his friendly form.

The Sweden international netted in last week’s 4-0 behind-closed-doors training match victory over Tamworth – before grabbing another goal in last night’s 2-1 defeat by Hannover 96 at the Gleisdorf Stadium, Austria.

And the 30-year-old striker, who suffered a frustrating first season at The Hawthorns, believes preparation is the key to a successful campaign.

“It is nice to start like this, especially with the season I had on my back last season,” said Rosenberg.

“It’s good to have a pre-season.

“Last time I missed out on the whole pre-season and was behind everyone from the beginning and I didn’t really catch up.

“Now I have started from the beginning and scored goals in the games, so hopefully this will be a different season for me.”

The former Werder Bremen and Ajax forward is relishing the opportunity to get a full pre-season under his belt – despite the blistering Austrian heat.

“It is great,” added Rosenberg.

“Last night was only our second game and physically I thought we were really great.

“We played really well at times.

“Some of our actions were good for the second week and the second game.

“We didn’t do too much yesterday morning but we have trained hard in the two weeks since we’ve been back so it was tough, especially with the heat.

“The second half was easier because it wasn’t so hot, but in the first half the heat was bad.

“But you get used to it and you train hard in the same weather.”
