Olsson 'draws' attention to Newcastle

Defender targets all three points against the Magpies

JONAS Olsson has backed his team-mates to begin turning draws into victories – after the Baggies recorded their third successive Barclays Premier League stalemate at West Ham on Saturday.

The 3-3 scoreline at Upton Park means the Baggies have now had to settle for a point on nine occasions this season – more than any other top-flight outfit.

Olsson admits going three games unbeaten has boosted confidence – but insists Albion should now be targeting a win over Newcastle at The Hawthorns on New Year’s Day (ko 3pm).

“It was a good point - Upton Park is a tough place to go,” said the Sweden international.

“It was still an important game not to lose.

“Both teams didn’t have the confidence to see the game out.

“At 2-1 we felt a bit nervous.

“We need to get a win and then we will feel more comfortable.

“The quality is there.

“The belief has been there all along but your confidence is affected by results, regardless of performances.

“It’s nice to be undefeated in three but we need to turn one into a win.

“You can’t keep drawing games - but when you’re playing teams who are around you in the table it’s also important not to lose.

“We’ll take the point and try to chase those three points on New Year’s Day instead.”
