Ladies start with draw

James' leveller earns point

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies’ opening game of the new season saw them share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Leeds United Ladies at the weekend.

After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead a minute after the break.

But the Baggies levelled in the 56th minute through forward Robyn James.

Albion manager Dave Lawrence said: “I thought Leeds shaded it in terms of possession and chances, they were a young team eager to impress and they thought they could pick points up on the road.

“We countered them well, our shape without the ball was good, we created a couple of good chances but the passing and moving wasn’t up to scratch and that’s something we’ll be working on in training.”

After several new faces were brought into the squad over the summer by Lawrence, he now hopes they can start to find their feet and move forward this season.

“We’ve managed to bring in some attacking players but it will take them some time to bed in and get used to our style,” he added.

“But when you’ve got someone like Robyn James who can score goals you’ve always got a chance to pick up points.”
